Undersheriff Tomeo is a graduate of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute in Tallahassee and Leadership Seminole. In 2016, he was promoted to Chief over the Department of Law Enforcement and in 2017 became the Undersheriff. In 2014, he was promoted to Captain over the Domestic Security Division where he managed the Sheriff’s Office intelligence operations, which included criminal activity analysis, reporting and tracking, anti-terrorism operations, federal agency partnerships, and multi-agency domestic security task forces. In 2012, Undersheriff Tomeo was assigned as the Lieutenant over Specialized Services in our Patrol Division which oversaw our school resource deputies, traffic safety and general investigations. A few years later he served as the Child Protective Services Lieutenant and provided leadership to units working to investigate allegations of child neglect, child sexual abuse, child physical abuse, and child exploitation. In 2009, he was transferred to serve as the Lieutenant over agency investigations including crisis intervention, domestic violence, elder services, digital forensics, major crimes, and victim services. Six years later he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a district commander over patrol functions. As a Sergeant, he spent time in CCIB then was transferred to serve as a Patrol Sergeant. Once he was hired with the Sheriff’s Office, he continued as a CCIB agent for three years before his promotion to Sergeant. He then served with the Altamonte Springs Police Department and spent six years as a part of their Ready Response Team and as an agent with the City-County Investigative Bureau. Undersheriff Tomeo started his law enforcement career in 1989. Undersheriff Lou Tomeo currently serves as second in command and is responsible for providing strategic direction to, and oversight of, the delivery of law enforcement, correctional, and administrative services to our community. In 2014, he was appointed to chief deputy where he led operational and administrative functions for more than 1,400 members of the Sheriff’s Office. In this role, he oversaw the operation of five divisions including uniformed patrol, Special Operations, Juvenile Enforcement and Intervention, Public Affairs and Community Services. In 2011, he was appointed to major of the Department of Neighborhood Policing. In 2008, Sheriff Lemma was promoted to captain and tasked with management of the uniformed patrol division, property crime investigations, traffic safety and code enforcement. Four years later, he was promoted to lieutenant in the Community Services Division where he managed the agency’s crime prevention efforts, served as the public information officer, and coordinated programs to assist the elderly and domestic violence victims. He served as a school resource deputy and a crimes against children investigator before receiving a promotion to sergeant of the Special Operations Section in 2002. Sheriff Lemma began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1992 as a correctional officer and was selected as a deputy sheriff four years later. He also attended the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Chief Executive Institute in Tallahassee, Florida. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia College, a master’s degree in administrative leadership from the University of Oklahoma, and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Sheriff Lemma received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Sheriff Dennis Lemma became Sheriff of Seminole County on January 3, 2017.
